Rationale: The purpose of this assignment is to encourage students to prepare persuasive speeches with ethos, pathos, and logos. Each student should communicate with his/her audience to accomplish a specific goal and to ensure the audience accepts his/her point of view. Whether formal or personal, this type of speech intends to bring about a change in others. Sales pitches, legal proceedings and debates are all forms of persuasive speech. The aim is to change existing beliefs or call the audience to take action (buy goods, join a group, etc.).

Imagine the number of aquatic life that we have ended by throwing plastic bags in our garbage? Global warming is one of the major challenges the entire world is facing and cannot hide from it. Human activities are held accountable since through “Before the Flood,” 2016 documentary by Leonardo DiCaprio, loads of evidence are showcased as an affirmation. Therefore, the rising sea levels, emission of greenhouse gases to the environment are becoming life threatening and needs immediate solutions. Slide 1:
Global warming is a threat to the world.
Rising sea level and emission of harmful gas to the environment are some of the causes.

Transition: Do you know how human activities cause global warming?

The rising sea level is one of the dangerous consequences of global warming. It is caused by thermal expansion originating from warming of the ocean and land-based ice melting than normal for example, ice sheets and glaciers. The result is amplified storm surges further inland which cause nuisance flooding that destroy infrastructure and homes. Salt water intrusion moves to coastal ground water sources causing the salinity of fresh water used for agriculture and drinking. According to Dincer, Colpan, & Kadioglu, (2013, Africa is the most affected because they rely on agriculture and have poor sanitation facilities. Human activities such as burning of oil and coal and cutting trees in tropical forest has led to increase in heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere causing the earth to warm, thus the rising sea level.
Greenhouse gases are burning solar energy resulting in heat remaining close to earth. They comprise of gases such as of CO2, methane, nitrous oxide originating from human activities for example, car exhausts, burning coal through electricity production as well as from industries through chemical reactions. This results in spread of pandemics and infectious diseases such as cardiovascular disease and malaria (Dincer, Colpan, & Kadioglu, 2013).

Transition: However, this can be stopped and we can all enjoy staying in a safe environment.
Emission of harmful gases from human activities is the main cause of all these problems. Alternatives such as buying products with minimal packaging and reusing them can save 2,400 pounds of CO2 yearly (Dincer, Colpan, & Kadioglu, 2013). Using the alternatives of burning fossil fuels such as biodiesel and wind fuel can also be helpful. Reduced cutting down of trees and planting more can help curb these consequences of global warming. Slide 3:

Reduced greenhouse gases will keep heat away from the earth resulting in improved agriculture, saving marine life as well as reduced diseases. Slide 4:
