Chapter 12: Middle Childhood: Cognitive Development
The textbook includes information to help us understand how school-age children learn, including research that looks at the factors that influence learning.
The research provides insight into the learning of all children. The textbook describes three factors that do appear to play an important role in school achievement:
- Early exposure to language
- Expectations of teachers and family
- Expectations of the culture
- Describe how these factors influenced your learning in grade school (provide a specific example or two).
- Based on the information in the chapter, describe what you think teachers or parents could do to support children’s cognitive learning.
